THE FUNDABOUT USCONTACT

The Portfolio Manager

In addition to his roles as Founder, Managing Partner, and Chief Investment Officer of Gratio Capital, Rimmy Malhotra manages the Gratio Values Fund. Rimmy oversees the Fund’s research activities and analyses utilized in selecting investments. He also seeks out special situation opportunities for the Fund’s portfolio.

Investment Management & Fundamental Research

Before assuming management of the Gratio Values Fund, Rimmy was with New York City-based hedge fund Spencer Capital Management. Prior to that, he was with The Citibank Private Bank where he developed and headed many of the bank’s money laundering detection systems. At Spencer Rimmy was responsible for conducting fundamental analysis and research as part of assessing investment opportunities for the fund. His research led to the addition of several investment ideas to the fund's portfolio.  Rimmy joined Spencer when the firm was at its infancy and left after the fund had grown to many times its size.

Rimmy has an MBA from The Wharton School focusing in Finance, as well as an MA in International Relations from The University of Pennsylvania. He completed his undergraduate coursework at Johns Hopkins University, where he received a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.A. in Economics.

Special Situation and Activist Investing

While at Spencer Capital, Rimmy led the firm's first activist investment initiative, which was in the technology and telecomm space.  The effort was led in conjunction with Shamrock Holdings, the investment arm of the Disney family. The initiative led to the successful sale of the company in less than 12 months.  Since that time Mr. Malhotra has been involved with additional such special situation or activist investments.

Social Impact Experience

More than just an investment specialist, Rimmy served in the Peace Corps for nearly three years in Central America, where, among other projects, he started a non-profit to bring technology to rural elementary and middle schools. Rimmy's projects were used as models to train new Peace Corps volunteers well after his departure.

Writings & Publications

Rimmy maintains a blog about his two interests, investing and doing good, at http://www.dowellanddogood.com.

Rimmy has also previously written for the Motley Fool on various investing topics.
